The electrical group is responsible for all the electrical systems on board the car. This includes both the high and low voltage systems.
Battery Electrical EngineerAs a Battery Electrical Engineer, you will focus on the design, development, and optimization of the electrical systems within the battery pack, in a team of both electrical and mechanical engineers. You will work closely with the battery mechanical engineers to ensure a safe and efficient battery system, focusing on the electrical busbar, precharge and safety systmes. Integrating the battery with the car's electrical HV and LV systems, ensuring electrical safety and testing the electrical components and battery cells will be some of your main tasks.

Areas of responsibility
Design and development of battery electrical systems
Integration of battery systems with the car's electrical HV and LV systems
Testing and validation of battery electrical components including busbars, fuses, precharge resistors, contactors and battery cells.

What do you get out of being a Battery Electrical Engineer in Nordlys NTNU?
Hands-on experience with advanced battery technologies
Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
Challenge your engineering skills in a real-world application
Embedded EngineerAs an embedded software developer you will work on writing code for our STM32-based data accusation modules (DAMs) and steering wheel (DSW). The code for these systems is critical for the core functionality of the car, and controls the car based on input from the driver. The tasks will be mostly writing robust state machine based application code, but also driver development integrating new hardware or improving current solutions.

Areas of responsibility
Development of embedded software and hardware.
Integration of hardware and software systems into our distributed system in the car using CAN-bus.
Testing and debugging of embedded systems

What do you get out of being an Embedded Engineer in Nordlys NTNU?
Hands-on experience with embedded systems
Opportunity to innovate new solutions for real-world applications
Developing components and making them work together in a complex system

Mechanical

The mechanical group designs and builds all the dynamic mechanical systems of the solar car. Systems include braking, suspension and steering.
SteeringAs a Steering System Engineer you will be responsible for designing and developing a new steering system for our already existing car. The steering system needs to be both reliable and safe during a competition as well as being lightweight. The steering system as of now is based on a rack and pinion design. Your work will involve design and production of the new steering system. The design process will mostly be in CAD and structural analysis programs. You will also be able to do lots of practical work during the production of the system

Chassis

The chassis group designs and builds the structural components of the solar car. Systems include the roll cage and the outer shell of the car.
Structural and Safety EngineerAs a Structural & Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for the car’s primary load-bearing structure, including the chassis, occupant cell, and other critical composite and metallic components. Safety is one of our highest priorities, and you will contribute to ensuring that every structural element meets competition regulations and provides a robust and reliable foundation for the vehicle.

Your work will involve designing and validating static structural components, performing analyses to verify strength and stiffness, and ensuring that the car’s structural solutions integrate well with other subsystems. You will collaborate closely with teammates across aerodynamics, mechanical, and electronics to ensure a safe and well-engineered final product.
Body Mechanisms EngineerAs a Body Mechanisms Engineer, you will design and develop the moving components of the car’s structure, such as hinges, latching systems, and opening/closing mechanisms for service panels and doors. Your work focuses on small but critical mechanical systems that ensure accessibility, usability, and reliability.

You will be responsible for creating functional, manufacturable mechanisms that integrate cleanly with the chassis and body structure. The work includes CAD design, kinematic analysis, material selection, and close collaboration with the structural and aerodynamics teams to ensure that all mechanisms are lightweight, robust, and competition-ready.

Software

The winning team needs a winning driving strategy. The software group develops software analysis tools to calculate the solar cars optimal speed.
Software DeveloperAs a Software Developer, you will focus on the development of an advanced simulation software in Python which can accurately model our cars in competition and calculate how the car should drive to win the race. To do this, you will learn how the car works inside and out, translate technology to code, work with optimization, control, data analysis, and neural networks and write software which solves real world problems.

Areas of responsibility:
taking part in the planning, design, and writing of software for optimizing race strategy.

What do you get out of being a Software Developer at Nordlys NTNU?
Experience with software development and design, Python programming, control theory and optimization, data analysis and neural networks.
Participate in Hackathons with the team
